Can I get sound if I bridge my computer and TV with two DVI to HDMI adapters and an HDMI cable?

March 26th, 2010 · 5 Comments · Uncategorized

I currently have my computer hooked up to a TV with and DVI to HDMI adapter on my computer's video card and connected directly to the TV through HDMI. I was surprised that it gave me sound through my TV since the actual connection to the computer is through a DVI adapter.

However, I need to move to a different TV that only has DVI integration.

I know DVI cables don't carry sound but if use another DVI to HDMI adapter on my TV and use an HDMI cable between them, will it transmit the sound through my TV? Or does a DVI port only transmit sound but not process it?

Any help would be awesome! Adapters aren't cheap unless I buy online, and I get impatient waiting on shipping. Thanks in advance.

DVI (Digital Video Interface) adapters, cables, and ports do not process or transmit any sound. They never have and never will. If you are getting sound from your computer to your TV then it must be through a different connection.

You can get a 1/4″ jack to RCA stereo and that will provide you with sound from your Line Out port on your computer to your TV.
