This cable will not and is not supposed to connect a pc/mac/desktop/laptop to a TV.

even if you have TV out capabilities on your video card and the software to support it, this product will not work! It is not meant to link a computer to a TV.

do not buy this product if you are trying to hook up your computer to your TV. It will not work.

With out even trying it out, you can tell it will not work simply because the RCA cables have all 3 components two of which are audio! your VGA port on your computer is video only! this product is extremely misleading and is very attractive due to the price. Do not be fooled and do not waste your money!

Despite the negative reviews I bought one of these. I thought, "These people probably don't know what they're doing I'll be fine." I tried the cable with my laptop which was the reason I bought it and, like others, my laptop said it couldn't find an external monitor. I have used the vga on my monitor to connect directly to my HDTV before just fine so I knew it should work. I tried using the s-video end as well as the RCA end (trying both the yellow cable and connecting all three despite the fact that VGA doesn't transmit audio) both with no luck.

The only 5 star review for this product says that you need to support TV Out (my laptop does) and that you need software (my laptop should). Taking my testing one step further I tried to use this product with my GTX260 a fairly new graphics card on my desktop computer and it still did not work.

I think I can confidently say that this product (and possibly all similar products) does not work. There are only two slightly positive reviews for this product and neither of them provide any form of helpful information for how to get it to work. I think amazon should remove the product from the website as it does not work for the majority of purchasers, if at all.

I bought this to be able to use my non-HD TV as a second monitor so I could watch movies on a larger screen from my couch. This works perfectly. I have a DVI-I output on my PC, which I had to convert to VGA with this DVI-I Male to VGA Female Adapter. Then I used the VGA-to-VGA cord that came with this to connect the VGA to the converter, and a cable like this Cables To Go Value Series S-Video Cable (25 feet) that I already had, from the converter to the TV. I was freaking out until I remembered to plug the converter power cord into an empty usb port. I had a flipping screen image at first, but flipped the tiny, white switches until the picture was clear. I was in business!

The product was shipped quickly and in good condition. I would recommend it for this use. The picture is close to perfect with very little interference, which the instruction booklet says can be caused by too little power or too many electronics in the vicinity, whatever that means.

Once you have this hooked up you need to reboot your computer or it won't recognize the TV as a monitor. I was about to toss this across the room after hooking it up to two TV's and switching wires 4 or 5 times. Once the laptop rebooted, worked great.

The converter box has one input (VGA) and three outputs (VGA, TV, S-Video). It it powered off a USB port.

The pros are that it is small and works quite well for video. I tried it with three different pcs and the quality of the video input will determine what you get out of it.

Cons include the quality of text output to the screen and the use of a USB port for power. If you use large fonts and icons, a lower resolution setting (800x600) and a quality video card you can read text well enough to surf the web (but you will have to use scroll bars at that low resolution) - I am using an older 36" Toshiba (pre-HD)

I am overall pleased with my purchase. I would recommend it for the price.

This converter works well. I did have a small problem hooking it up using my laptop. It took me about an hour to figure it out. The problem was on my end not the converters. But after I figured out the problem it worked like a charm.

This product does come with instructions and troubleshooting but it is not very detailed. The problem I had was getting a picture to show on my TV. I set the NTSC panels down for USA. I put the VGA connection in my laptop and connected the other end to the VGA in port on the converter and the S-Video out to my TV. Vertical colored lines showed up on my TV screen (like the when a tv network goes off and they are testing) I was able to press the menu button on the converter and I did see the menu options come up. So I knew I had something right.

I ended up having to set the Display menu on my laptop. Click Start, Control Panel, Display. Click on the Settings tab. Then click advanced Then you will have to click the tab that displays what type of viewing equipment you are using. (Not general, adapter, monitor, troubleshoot, color management) Its the tab that I didn't list here ... LOL ... You then want to set it to dual view. You might have a drop down box or option box. Once you set it click ok.

I hope this helps, cause it took me an hour to finally figure it out... LOL... GOOD LUCK!
